The Boys & Girls Club of America began in 1860 with several women in Hartford, Connecticut. Originally called the Boys Club of America, the club was organized to be a positive alternative to roaming the streets and a cause was born. In 1906, several Boys Clubs affiliated and started a nationwide movement. Over a century later, the organization’s name was changed to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) in 1990 to recognize the fact that girls were also a part of the cause. Currently, the BGCA serves more than 4.4 million children through 3,700 club locations in the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and domestic and international military bases.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Texas was originally chartered as the Clements Boys & Girls Club in Killeen, Texas in 1965. Today, the Boys & Girls Club of Central Texas has nine clubs throughout Killeen, Copperas Cove, Gatesville, Lampasas and Georgetown. Currently, the Boys & Girls Club of Central Texas serves over 10,000 children ranging in age from 6 to 18 years of age, with almost 50% of their members from economically disadvantaged families.

The Georgetown location came into existence in 2005. That summer, a group of concerned citizens began researching the possibility of bringing the Boys & Girls Club to Georgetown and the surrounding Williamson County. After months of talks and negotiations, in December 2005, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Texas agreed to partner with the Georgetown Housing Authority to open a facility in Georgetown that currently operates as an affiliated club under the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Texas Charter.

The Boys & Girls Club of Georgetown opened its doors on March 20, 2006. As of today, it is the only Boys & Girls Club in Williamson County. Today, the Boys & Girls Club of Georgetown is serving nearly 160 youth from ages 7-17 in its main location and its summer facility. As we continue to see explosive growth in our membership, we will continue to expand our clubs to other areas of Georgetown as well as throughout Williamson County.
